You can’t fake a good reputation, especially if you are a known jerk. It is important for your career and your personal life to have a positive reputation. The question is, do you know what your reputation truly is?

Chances are, you already know the answer. However, there is one very easy way to find out your true reputation. Ask someone. Don’t just ask someone who will tell you what you want to hear. Ask someone who knows you well and isn’t afraid to tell you the truth. That person might be a spouse, close friend, colleague or teammate. You might need to reassure them you won’t get mad. Again, chances are you already know the answer to this. If you are asking the right person, they know it, too. Why is it important for you to have a good reputation among the people you already know? They want you to succeed. These people know you the best. Call them your biggest champions. They will brag on you until they die. These folks are:

  • Family
  • Friends
  • Employees
  • Partners
  • Current Clients

There is a saying. “You already know enough people to make you successful.” Your champions trust you, or at least they should. Why? That is the heart of all of this. It’s the question that personal brands are made of. Why should someone trust me? Maybe the better question is, how do I become trusted? Stay tuned.
